An Afternoon of Coffee, Creativity, and 3D Printing
Last weekend, we had an absolute blast hosting a 3D printing workshop at Minikopi, one of Jakarta Barat’s coziest cafés. Surrounded by great coffee and even better company, we spent the afternoon sharing our passion for 3D printing with a curious and enthusiastic crowd.
What Happened at the Workshop
The Setting
Minikopi provided the perfect backdrop for our workshop—intimate, welcoming, and buzzing with creative energy. There’s something special about combining technology with the warmth of a local café. Good coffee + 3D printing = the perfect Saturday afternoon!
Who Attended
We had an amazing mix of people:
- Aspiring entrepreneurs exploring product development
- Designers and creatives curious about prototyping
- Students interested in learning about manufacturing technology
- Hobbyists looking to bring their ideas to life
- Small business owners considering 3D printing for their operations
The diversity of backgrounds made for incredible conversations and questions we hadn’t even thought of!
What We Covered
Introduction to 3D Printing
We started with the basics—explaining what 3D printing is, how it works, and why it’s becoming such a game-changer for makers, designers, and businesses in Indonesia.
Live Demonstrations
Nothing beats seeing 3D printing in action! We brought a printer and demonstrated:
- How prints start layer by layer
- The transformation from digital file to physical object
- Different materials and their properties
- What makes a design printable
Watching people’s faces light up when they saw their first 3D print come to life never gets old!
Real-World Applications
We shared case studies from our work:
- Product designers iterating prototypes rapidly
- Architecture firms creating stunning scale models
- Entrepreneurs testing product ideas before mass production
- Custom solutions for unique problems
Hands-On Experience
Participants got to:
- Touch and examine different 3D printed samples
- See various materials (PLA, Resin, PETG, TPU)
- Compare print qualities and finishes
- Ask about their specific project ideas
Q&A Session
The best part! Questions ranged from:
- “Can you print [insert crazy idea here]?” (Often, yes!)
- “How much would it cost to print my design?”
- “What software should I learn?”
- “Can 3D printing really compete with traditional manufacturing?”
Highlights & Memorable Moments
The “Aha!” Moments
There’s always that moment when someone realizes: “Wait, I can actually bring my idea to life with this!” We saw it happen multiple times during the workshop—that spark of possibility lighting up someone’s eyes.
Creative Ideas Shared
Workshop attendees brought fascinating project ideas:
- A designer working on custom jewelry pieces
- An entrepreneur developing a unique phone accessory
- A student creating assistive devices for their community project
- A café owner (yes, from Minikopi itself!) thinking about custom merchandise
Community Connection
The best part? People started networking with each other. Designers met potential collaborators. Entrepreneurs exchanged ideas. New friendships formed over coffee and curiosity.
